THE MOST FAMOUS BETTY RECIPE! (according to her granddaughters)

Mix 1/4 cup sugar and 1/4 cup shortening in bowl.

Scald 1 cup milk, pour over sugar mixture.

Dissolve 1 package of yeast in 1/4 cup warm water. Add to bowl.

Add 1 egg, slightly beaten and a bit of salt.

Add enough flour to handle mixture (approx. 4 1/2 cups).

Let rise until mixture doubles in size. Form into rolls on baking sheet, then let rise again.

Bake at 475 degrees for 5 minutes.

Kahlua

Bring to boil

1 quart distilled H2O

2-4 cups of sugar

12 tablespoons of instant coffee

it should reach about 265 degrees (3-5 minutes of boiling).

Let cool COMPLETELY!

Then stir in 1 fifth Vodka.

Put in dark bottle with 1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise.

Stir everyday for 30 days.

Then, drink up!

Chocolate Sauce

Melt in a double boiler

2 oz unsweetened chocolate

with

6-8 Tbsp heavy cream

1/2 C sugar

While still hot, add very slowly to 1 beaten egg, beating as you add.

To reheat use a double boiler.

Variations: instead of heavy cream, substitute 6-8 Tbsp half & half or 4 Tbsp milk + 2 Tbsp butter
